Air quality today
The air quality today in Rio de Janeiro is classified as Moderate. The main pollutant identified is PM2.5 (fine particles). Measurements show a PM2.5 reference value of 13.0 and a PM10 reference value of 31.67, based on 47 valid observations collected via OpenAQ.
These figures reflect the current assessment for the city without additional interpretation. This page is informational; for health guidance, use official sources such as EPA AirNow or WHO.

What the data includes
The Rio de Janeiro air‑quality dataset currently includes measurements for carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxide (NO), nitrogen dioxide (NO₂), total nitrogen oxides (NOX), ozone (O₃), particulate matter ≤ 10 µm (PM10), particulate matter ≤ 2.5 µm (PM2.5) and sulfur dioxide (SO₂). Data come from 50 individual sensor rows collected at 16 monitoring stations across the city. For most pollutants the latest readings were recorded on 2026‑02‑10 at 18:00 UTC, and all of those entries are flagged as “Updated within 3 days”. Overall, 47 of the 50 rows have timestamps no older than three days, while three rows date back beyond thirty days; none are marked as unknown or from today.
Across the pollutants the observed values show a wide spread. PM10 concentrations range from a low of 3.79 µg/m³ to a high of 59 µg/m³, with a median of about 14.5 µg/m³ and the 90th percentile near 28 µg/m³; the most extreme recent reading was 31.67 µg/m³ at Bangu. PM2.5 values are lower overall, ranging from 1.59 to 13 µg/m³, median 5.3 µg/m³ and a 90th percentile of roughly 8.6 µg/m³, with the highest recent measurement of 13 µg/m³ recorded in Irajá. Ozone varies between 13.37 and 88.84 µg/m³ (median 57.1 µg/m³), while nitrogen‑related gases show similar breadth: NO spans 4.09–13.59 µg/m³ (median 8.3 µg/m³), NO₂ from 11.16 to 61.81 µg/m³ (median 26.6 µg/m³) and NOX from 13.26 to 71.52 µg/m³ (median 36.9 µg/m³). SO₂ is reported at three stations, ranging narrowly between 7.33 and 24.38 µg/m³ with a median of 24.2 µg/m³, while CO appears in only two rows, from 0.27 to 0.5 ppm (median 0.385 ppm).
The coverage is uneven: PM10 and PM2.5 have the most recent observations (16 and 10 rows respectively), whereas CO and SO₂ are represented by just a handful of stations. Although the majority of data are fresh, the three older entries mean that some parts of the city may not be reflected in the latest snapshot, so conditions can differ by location and time.
